Hi Folks,
I realize that I just wrote but do not know when I will get computer time again. I am throwing an open house on Sunday, working Friday and Saturday 4-mn. Today has been very unlucky for me. I started out having trouble breathing in the middle of the night and after turning off my cooling fan that blows directly on me, I was able to stop coughing. I stopped to get some ingredients en route to the hospital, went to the gym where I did my weights and 400 calories on the aerobic equipment. My weights are usually 30 "lifts" on about 10 of the 26 machines and vary from 80 pounds to 35, the lighter ones for biceps. That was okay. I was told the rainy season was over but there was flooding on the way here, my car stopped in the middle of the road. I had to get out and get soaked. Two electrical engineers diagnosed it as clutch problems, helped get the car over and took me the rest of the way to work. I was soaked and walking into air-conditioned rooms made me quite chilled. I am wearing three hospital gowns under my lab coat now(unable to get a scrub shirt). It is a quiet night in the ER with 4 of us. I am to call for a ride with Emergency Medical Services if my car does not turn up (unlikely). It was towed. My nephrologist friend went back to Tampa after 5 days here. She did not like the fact that only 3 of the drugs that she uses are available. Also, I believe she was homesick.

There are plenty of fruits here but the Samoans do not eat them. Gout is primarily a disorder of purine metabolism. Uric acid builds up in the joint capsules and kidneys. Apparently the genetic defect exist in large numbers of people here. There are other causes of gout but I think the main one here is genetic. There is a drug specific for lowering the uric acid by correcting the defect but most people are not getting it. It has a fair number of side effects. An all meat diet and especially one with gravy and inner organs is bad. So are some seafoods. I guess that I will plan an hour to ride buses to work tomorrow. I have to get re ady for my party. Preparations are well under way. I am looking forward to being a hostess again. Will probably write again one day next week. Miss Mensa and dancing and you.

Love, Genie
