Hello Everybody,

It is a quiet night here in the ER so I thought that I would write about life here. It was 86 when I got in my apartment last night after my exercise and perspiration continued to pour off of me. The temperature fell to only 82 during the night but another 6 degrees as the afternoon progressed. I woke with a terrible bronchitic cough which resolved in a few hours. I must have a serious allergy. I haven't been coughing since. I sleep with the windows open and hear the surf and smell the umu smoke and sometimes trash fire smoke. I have been trying to convince my patients and the parents of others, all of whom have serious asthma, that there is real danger from this kind of smoke. We have so many wheezers; some get admitted; some die.

I haven't told you about the large green shade trees that have bright yellow flowers that look like crepe paper cones or the flowers that are about the size of cannas that have stalks of pink or orange (like the newpaper cylinders we used to make).

I got no response going to the assistant medical director. Apparently, NN, is the protegee of the chief nurse who is a wealthy woman and maybe irreplaceable, too. Anyhow, that is the way physicians are treated in this place and most other places too, I think.

My friend, Colleen, came up on Sunday for some Scrabble and my friend, Ann came up on Wednesday evening for dinner. She is coming tomorrow evening, too. We are having another good-bye party for one of the nurses on Saturday and I am off for that. Hope to have as much fun as the last party.

I work Sunday, Mondayand Tuesday evenings; off Wednesday, Day shift on Thursday, off on Friday, will go to Hasher hike if weather doesn't call it off. and next Saturday and Sunday and Monday evenings.

I really enjoy hearing from those of you who write. Your every word is precious to me.

Miss Mensa, dancing and you, of course.

Love, Genie
