SNOW

White, white diaphanous angel
Feathers endlessly falling -
White, white ashes falling
Stinging and choking all breath,
It’s a marble white world
Created by a stroke
Of a vindictive Snowqueen.
Blindingly white deserts we walk
Our steps covered and erased
Like our lives by
Sheer, enveloping snow.
Winter stars beam in silver
Upon it, a pale enchantment.
The sun cast in gray
Like a wavering shroud,
Snow covering our houses, fields and ways,
Looking out through windows
At the undulating waves
Of white - merciless cold
Congeals our breath,
Nearly freezes and stills out hearts
To await the golden
Kiss of spring -
Time revolves, each second an eternity
In a crystalline frost,
Darkness and cold engulfing
Dream and Nightmare upon
Beds, pillows made crystalline biers,
Snow White encased in ice,
Enshrouding walls –
White, white, so still the night.
