Hello Everybody,

Am about to start work on Sunday afternoon so I thought that I would let you know about my life here. There was a party last night at the Bowling Alley Restaurant where we had it before. Lots of Sashimi. I danced a few dances, one with a fellow who did not speak much English but I didn't stay long. My cough is back (intermittently) and I had trouble breathing with all of the smoke there. I(I do beleive that my cough is due to all of the trash fires and umus) NN was wearing a black bustiere with his boobs hanging out. I took pictures which I will send. I have gotten my printer unpacked (finally) and now have to find my photographic paper to make copies of ones that I took for various people. I will also figure out how to send them on the internet to you. Perhaps one at a time for several weeks. Yesterday, before the party, I went exploring and went over the mountains to the north side of the island (Tutuilla) from Pago Pago. There are a few trips over mountains to get to isolated towns. BTW, the major villages are Fagotogo (the vowel plus g gets an ng pronounciation), Nuuuli, Tafuna, and Leone. There are maybe 50 villages. I live in Taputimu which means forbidden water-Tapu=taboo. I saw some white birds from a distance and reflected that one doesn't see sea gulls here. I also saw some bluish birds that were flying so I don't really know what they look like. I went hiking in the National Park on the top of a mountain. There are two peaks that are high, one is about 2100 feet and "Rainmaker" is about 1900 feet.

I keep thinking of flora to describe. There are small trees like rhododendrums that have blackish green leaves and verylarge pink-purple blooms like Chrysanthemums(only kind of spiky) and there are small trees with burnt orange flowers like small Christmas trees about 6 x 8 ". Both of these are ubiquitous here but obviously cultivated. The green and red and green and yellow hedges are high and also colorful.

Babies here mostly wear disposible diapers but the poorest of the people eat lamb flaps and turkey tails. No one has admitted to me that they eat this stuff and I ask about recent diet always. Nearly everyone also seems to have a cell phone. They also pay for local calls with these phones. I do not know how much.

Friday night, my friend Ann and I went down to the water at the base of the driveway and watched a lovely sunset. Then, we had dinner, some of which she had brought back at the apartment.

I watched a haunting movie today about a man who went back in time on the radio. He changed his personal history and that of his family by talking to his father on the radio. It made me nostalgic as did the Golden Oldies DJ show on radio today. How has time passed so quickly and how would I change it if I could? WOW!

Must get to work.

Miss Mensa and dancing and you, of course!

Love, Genie
